Advocate Narasimha Rao has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Telangana High Court, challenging the extraordinary profits amassed by the film Pushpa 2: The Rule. The movie, directed by Sukumar and starring Allu Arjun, has reportedly earned over ₹1,870 crore worldwide.

Rao contends that these substantial earnings are largely due to special permissions granted by the Telangana government, which allowed for increased ticket prices and additional benefit shows. He questions the rationale behind these concessions and seeks judicial intervention to ensure that a portion of the profits is allocated for the welfare of folk artists and as subsidies for small-budget films.

The PIL highlights concerns over the potential exploitation of government policies for commercial gain and emphasizes the need for equitable distribution of the film’s revenues to support the broader film industry ecosystem. The High Court has reportedly ordered the production of a copy of the Supreme Court verdict and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.

This legal action has sparked discussions about the regulation of film revenues and the responsibilities of filmmakers towards the cultural and economic welfare of related communities. The outcome of this PIL could set a significant precedent for future cases concerning the intersection of entertainment, government policy, and public interest.

The case has ignited a debate within the industry, with some backing the call for financial assistance to struggling artists, while others argue that filmmakers should not be compelled to share their profits. The court’s ruling on this issue could establish a precedent for future high-budget releases in India.

Meanwhile, Allu Arjun is preparing for his upcoming projects, teaming up with famous directors Atlee and Trivikram.
