In recent developments, Tamil cinema icon and political figure Vijay faces allegations from the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath concerning an Iftar event he hosted in Chennai. The organization has alleged that the event, intended to honor the Muslim community, was marred by the presence of individuals who ‘disrupted’ the sanctity of the occasion.

According to the complaint, the presence of individuals described as “drunkards and rowdies” at the Iftar gathering was deemed inappropriate and offensive to those observing the religious occasion. Syed Kous, treasurer of the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath, expressed that this kind of event and the participation ‘insulted’ Muslims. Further grievances highlighted in the complaint include inadequate arrangements and alleged misconduct by security personnel. Attendees reportedly felt disrespected, with claims that they were “treated like cows.”
“Muslims were insulted at the Iftar programme organised by Vijay. We believe the participation of drunkards and rowdies who had nothing to do with fasting or Iftar has insulted Muslims,” revealed the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath treasurer in a statement, according to recent reports.
The organization has urged for legal action against Vijay to prevent similar incidents in the future, emphasizing that their complaint is not a publicity stunt but a genuine concern. “Legal action should be taken against Vijay to ensure this does not happen again. We did not file a complaint for publicity,” Kous added.
The Iftar event in question took place at Royapettah YMCA grounds, where Vijay, adorned in a skull cap, participated in prayers before sharing a meal with attendees. Images and videos from the event circulated widely on social media platforms. As of now, Vijay has not publicly addressed the allegations stemming from the Iftar event. The situation remains under scrutiny as the community awaits further developments.
For the unversed, Thalapathy Vijay issued a statement, last year, announcing his retirement from the film industry and is currently wrapping up his last film titled Jana Nayagan, which is currently being shot. The actor will then be dedicating his time to his political career.
