Superman held a lot of Easter eggs for both casual fans and dedicated comic nerds. One cameo that seemed to titillate everyone in the theater, regardless of how much they knew about the source material, was the appearance of John Cena’s Peacemaker. The vigilante made a brief appearance on The Sphere News, giving his unfiltered thoughts on the Man of Steel following Lex Luthor’s reveal of the hero’s “true” purpose on Earth.
However, the cameo wasn’t just built for laughs. The scene actually informs a lot about Peacemaker’s place in the DC Universe heading into season 2. The first part of this is that Christopher Smith wasn’t viewed as a villain in Superman. While the news network wasn’t giving him the true hero treatment, it certainly didn’t seem as though they were interviewing a cold-blooded killer that recently spent time in Belle Reve- suggesting that his image may have been slightly rehabilitated.
Superman Redefines Peacemaker Season 2
Though perhaps the most important thing that the Superman cameo reveals is the helmet. Peacemaker wears his iconic helmet during his brief appearance. While that may not be shocking to some, many theories suggested that season 2 would be using the multiverse to explain how John Cena’s vigilante made his way to the DC Universe, with his character originating in the old DCEU.
The reveal that the Peacemaker fans will follow in season 2 originates in the new DC Universe throws a massive wrench into almost every theory fans had about the show. While the multiverse may still be involved in some way, the Superman cameo suggests that fans may be in store for more surprises than they first envisioned when the series finally drops on HBO Max.
