Madi Prewett is all for spanking as a form of punishment.
While talking with her husband Grant Troutt on Monday’s episode of the Stay True podcast, the couple revealed they plan to discipline their 4-month-old daughter Hosanna with corporal punishment. Yes, spanking.
The traditional parenting practice has become incredibly controversial in the past couple decades — as experts agree it’s not worth it. The National Institute of Health concluded after years of research:
“We now have enough research to conclude that spanking is ineffective at best and harmful to children at worst. We also know that a range of professional and human rights organizations condemn the practice and urge parents to use alternative forms of discipline. We thus have research-based and human rights-based reasons for not spanking our children.”
But the new parent admitted their plan to spank without hesitation on the podcast. Why? Because Madi has another source. As Bachelor Nation fans likely can guess by this point, it all comes back to the Bible. What the scripture says goes in their household. (We wonder if that means Madi has to leave the house during her period…)

For his part, Grant thinks it’ll be “hilarious” when they start spanking their child. No joke. He really thinks it’ll be funny. He then said, however — quite seriously and emphatically:
“We will [spank her], on the record, because the Bible clearly says, ‘Folly is bound up in a child, but discipline drives it far away.’”
Madi chimed in:
“It also specifically says discipline with a rod. … Well some people could say, ‘You can discipline them with time outs.’ Hold on, it says with a rod.”
JFC… Yes, because it was written hundreds of years ago when they didn’t have science. The Bible doesn’t mention teeth-brushing either, but we bet they’re going to stick with the experts on that one. (Say, what did scripture have to say about reality TV dating? Just curious.)
We really hope the two parents won’t spank their daughter with an actual freakin’ rod or anything else — or better yet, not spank her at all.
Grant confirmed Hosanna “will get a little bit.” But Madi pointed out it will be done in “a very loving way,” adding:
“Mommy does not want to discipline you, mommy doesn’t enjoy having to spank you, but there are consequences to disobedience. And that’s what you’re saying is, there are consequences to our sin. There are consequences to disobedience. I love that you’re speaking to this idea of like even our understanding between an earthly father and child because the Lord gives us that example – we’re given that example in scripture. And the reality is, discipline proves that we are God’s children. It’s not God’s rejection toward us. It’s actually proof that we belong to him.”
According to Madi, she experienced corporal punishment as a child herself. The Bachelor alum recalled:
“Discipline is not pleasant. … When my dad spanked me when I was young, I didn’t enjoy it. But now I look back, and I’m, like, ‘Praise God, my dad loved me enough to discipline me. Praise God that my dad loved me enough to train me into righteousness.’”
Yikes. We can imagine a lot of folks will have thoughts about this episode…
