Is Robert Pattinson really joining the DC Universe? Andy Muschietti, the director of the upcoming Batman movie The Brave and the Bold, gave his thoughts on the recent rumors surrounding the Dark Knight.
The rumor mill has been swirling with speculation that Robert Pattinson may officially make the jump to the DC Universe to play Batman. This came off the heels of (reported) delays for both The Batman Part II and Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and The Bold, leading many to believe that the films have their fate linked in some way. However, nobody involved in either project has taken a definitive stance in either direction.
A deft hand is certainly not wielded by Andy Muschietti, the director of The Brave and The Bold. When asked about the theory that Robert Pattinson would be playing Batman in the DC Universe by Radio TU (translated by ReelAnarchy), Muschietti was quick to shut down the possibility, stating that the version of the character in the upcoming reboot is unmistakable.
“As everyone knows, the Batman featured in The Brave and the Bold will belong to the new DC universe. It’s quite obvious that Matt Reeves’ Batman is not part of this new universe. However, DC and Warner Bros. are moving forward with the second part of Reeves’ Batman series, which, as widely reported, is expected to release around 2027.”
“This means the next Batman movie will take some time before it sees the light of day. Releasing two Batman films simultaneously would be counterproductive. What DC is doing is creating a strategy to ensure these two films don’t conflict with each other. Regarding my involvement in the project, there are good intentions for now. They want to do the movie with me, and I want to do it as well. I’m eager to work on the film.”
Why Robert Pattinson Won’t Be The DC Universe’s Batman.
While Andy Muschietti was the first person to, without any interpretation, say no to the idea of Robert Pattinson joining the DC Universe, it does line up with everything fans know about the franchise so far. The Brave and The Bold is set to adapt Batman and Son, a comic book where Damian Wayne is at least 10 years old and Bruce Wayne has had at least three prior Robins. Unless Battinson has been getting busy off-screen, it’s simply not feasible for his character.
The tone of Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader also doesn’t align with the DC Universe. While the franchise is set to have wildly different tones across its projects, The Batman is singular in being a truly grounded detective story. It’s an adaptation that arguably wouldn’t work if Andy Muschietti had the hero flip around with Superman and face off against Starro.
