Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have one of the all-time great passer-receiver relationships in NFL history. They bonded on their shared ability to improvise on the field, leading to over 660 catches and 55 touchdowns in their 5+ years together with the Kansas City Chiefs. Their chemistry is the stuff of legend. This year… not so much.

Trav usually ends a season over 1,000 yards. This season he’s on track to only get around 900. He only has two touchdowns the whole year so far — that’s 12 games! Is he not getting open? Is Mahomes not trying to get him the ball?

It’s been a noticeable enough difference this year that there have been some pretty dramatic fan theories that the bromance may be over!

Well, in the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, even Trav had to admit something is off with their famous chemistry. Talking about his inability to get touchdowns lately, and especially in the most recent game, he said:

“Where I take a lot of pride is once we get in that red zone, man, I get a little hungrier. And for whatever reason this year I just can’t find my way in the end zone. I’m just not on the same page as Pat. It can get frustrating. It can get f**king frustrating. That’s for damn sure.”

Speaking of one specific play in which he wasn’t in the right place for a touchdown pass intended for him, he offered:

“I’m thinking, ‘If I don’t have it right now, and the ball is still in Pat’s hand, I need to do something else to get open for him.’ And just, I went one way, he threw it the other.”

Hmm.

It sounds like he’s being really hard on himself. But fans can’t help speculating about whether non-football issues are affecting what happens on the field!

No, we’re not talking about folks who think Trav is giving up because he’s ready to leave football and become Mr. Taylor Swift. But it does have to do with Tay; we’re talking about the issues between her and Brittany Mahomes!

The two became fast friends when the I Knew You Were Trouble singer first entered the Chiefs sphere. But there seemed to be some friction when Pat’s wife showed support for Donald Trump on social media. Tay was, of course, firmly against the former president getting back in office. He’s abysmal on the rights of women and the LGBT community, something she was clear on in her passionate endorsement of his opponent Kamala Harris. This is more than “politics” — we’re talking about respect for whole communities, for rape victims, for the rule of law. Support for Trump has led to a great many families being divided, so the idea it would split up a friendship just over a year old wasn’t a stretch.

So yeah, plenty of fans are wondering if the reason Trav and Pat are no longer “on the same page” is because they just aren’t besties anymore. It sure would be sad if that were true.

But we can say, neither player has said anything negative about the other in public, so right now it’s all speculation. Right now it really seems Trav is just putting the onus on himself to get more in sync with his QB. Though we guess time will tell if they get some of that magic back this year.
