What is Ultraman’s TRUE identity? Here’s how Superman may set up an interesting future for the DC Universe’s first proper villain on the silver screen.

Leading up to Superman, Ultraman was one of the few true mysteries held by the DC Universe that weren’t spoiled by leaks. Except…that isn’t exactly true. Almost everyone knew as soon as the name “Ultraman” leaked that the villain was a clone of Superman. And while some interesting theories surrounding Parasite and Ulysses cropped up from time to time, the film proved that occam’s razor is often right on the money.
Yes, Ultrman’s identity in Superman is that of Superman himself. The film reveals that, before the events of the film, Lex Luthor recovered a lock of Superman’s hair from one of his prior fights. Using that, he made his own version of the DC Universe’s most powerful metahuman. Only this version was much dumber, but just as strong.
Ultraman’s Future In The DC Universe
Sadly, the film ends with Ultraman being flung into a black hole by Superman. This may be disappointing to some that hoped the villain could play a more substantial role in the DC Universe going forward. However, things may not be as simple as people would believe on first watch. If one recalls, the pocket dimension that created the black hole was created via rift between universes.
As such, it’s very possible that the blackhole didn’t kill Ultraman, but rather sent him to another universe. One without Clark Kent where he could be Superman. One could say…a bizarro world? While perhaps a stretch to immediately say that Ultraman could turn into Bizarro in a future installment, it would certainly be a fun twist on the character that keeps the DC Universe’s first villain alive for some time to come.
