Is the Blade reboot getting another new writer? David S. Goyer, who wrote the original Daywalker trilogy, has thrown his hat into the ring for the MCU incarnation.
If Blade isn’t the most cursed film in the MCU, it’s hard to imagine what would be. The reboot was announced all the way back in the far off date of 2019 with Mahershala Ali set to star. However, over half a decade later, and after a number of false starts and creative shake ups, the Blade reboot is just as far from competition as it was back in 2019.
This has left many to wonder if the team for the Blade reboot needs some new blood. Or, better yet, old blood. David S. Goyer, who wrote all three films in the original Blade trilogy, was asked about his thoughts regarding the MCU’s long-delayed take on the character. Goyer was also asked if he’d consider taking up the pen to write the project. His answer? Of course.
“Give me a call…I would [write it]. I’ve always loved the character and I love him,” Goyer told Screen Rant. “I’ve been sitting on the sidelines wondering, ‘What in the world is going on? Why is it taking so long?’ Because I’m a huge Marvel fan myself, and I’ve just been totally puzzled.”
Who Is Writing The Blade Reboot?
The Blade reboot has had nearly half a dozen writers at this point. Stacy Osei-Kuffour was the original name attached to bring the day walker into the MCU. Over the years, she’s been replaced by Nic Pizzolatto, Michael Starrbury, former X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo, and Logan writer Michael Green, with the current script being penned by Eric Pearson.
David S. Goyer would be the seventh writer attached to the MCU’s Blade reboot if he joined the project, not counting any contributions not publicly known. Though given that the film’s main struggle seems to revolve around crafting a compelling story, perhaps bringing on one final writer wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
